General information about renting clothes
Yes, of course! Renting clothes well in advance is the smart thing to do – it will allow you to focus on other details as the important event approaches. In our rental calendar, you can choose the rental period up to 200 days in advance.
Are you planning to rent clothes even further into the future than that? Please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’re happy to help.
We have included as much information as possible on each product page to make it as easy as possible for you to rent a garment in our online store. The size chart and fitting photo are designed to help you choose the right size.
If you’re worried about a garment not being a good fit for you or there’s something else on your mind, please don’t hesitate to contact us – we’re happy to help. You’re also very welcome to come to our Helsinki store and try our clothes on there. We can also assist you in choosing the right size, for example, by video call!
Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer a purchase option for the products we rent.
No, you don’t – we’ll take care of that, so you can concentrate on looking good in them. Washing the product is always included in the rental price.
We wash the rented products ourselves after each use. This way we can guarantee that the rental experience is pleasant for the next user too and that the product is odourless and completely clean.
The products in our selection are made to last. We want you to wear the clothes you rent as if they were your own – so don’t worry about stains!
However, if a product gets damaged or lost, please notify us immediately. In problem situations, we will apply our Terms and Conditions. If a product is damaged beyond repair during the rental period, or is never returned, we have the right to charge the customer the recommended retail price of the product.
Yes, you can! If you cancel your booking 7 days before the start of the rental period, we will refund you the full amount in the form of a gift card. If you want to cancel an order, please always contact our customer service team first.
Delivery and returns
All deliveries from The Ateljé within Finland are handled by Posti and Matkahuolto.
1. Pack everything back into the garment bag
When your rental period is over, pop the items you rented and the hanger that came with them back in the same garment bag you received them in.
2. Attach the return label
The package also includes a prepaid return label – make sure you put it in the plastic pocket on the outside of the bag, replacing the old label.
3. Return it to the return service point or the store
Then, by the deadline, take the parcel to the same service point where you collected it. (If you rented the product in-store, please return it to the store during our opening hours.) You’ll find the deadline for returning the product in the instructions that came with the delivery. The return date is always the last day of your chosen rental period. The parcel must be taken by the end of that day to the same service point where you collected it.
We charge a small fee for the delivery, but the return is always included in the rental price. You can avoid delivery charges by picking up the product directly from our store!

We are relying on you to return the product on time – it’s very important that the next customer’s rental period is not delayed and that we have time to wash the product before delivering it to them.
For any late returns, we will charge a fee in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. If you are unable to return the product by the deadline, please contact us immediately.
That’s up to you! Before adding a product to your shopping cart, you can choose the length of the rental period when it’s a one-off rental.
You can choose from the following rental periods: 3 days or 7 days. If you need to rent a product for a longer period, please contact us.
Do not remove the seal on the product – it shows us that the product hasn’t been used. Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can see if there’s still time to send you a replacement product or a different size before your important event.
If you want to return the product straight away without using it, please always contact our customer service team first.
If you notice a flaw in the delivered product, please contact our customer service team without delay.
All products in our online store have a 14-day exchange and return right in accordance with the Finnish Consumer Protection Act. This also applies to sale products. The 14-day exchange and return right starts from the day you receive the product and it only applies to unused products.
Our monthly subscription concept allows you to rent clothes for a monthly fee. As a monthly subscriber, you can rent three garments for a month (30 days) from €119. You can become a member here.
The products included in the monthly subscription consist of a range of products that have been curated for everyday use and that specifically serve monthly subscribers. One-off rental products are rented separately and unfortunately cannot be included in the monthly subscription.
Our rental selection includes sizes ranging from XS to XXL and from 34 to 44, and you can choose the size that suits you best.
Unfortunately, this is not possible as there are a limited number of the same garment in our exclusive, shared wardrobe so far.
You’ll always receive an email reminder when it’s time to return the products from the current rental period and select new ones. The rental period is 30 days – so you can wear the clothes as if they were your own for a month at a time, then return them to us and choose new ones for the next month. The rental period starts from the date of your first order.
We want you to wear the clothes you rent as if they were your own – so don’t worry about stains! However, if the product gets dirty and you want to wash it during the rental period, you can do so according to the washing instructions.
Washing is not necessary, however, as it’s included in the rental price – we wash and maintain the rented products after each use. This way we can guarantee that the rental experience is pleasant for the next user too and that the product is odourless and completely clean.
We want you to wear the clothes as if they were your own, so don’t worry – you can leave stains and minor repairs to us!
However, if the product is badly damaged or lost, please inform us immediately. In problem situations, we will apply our Terms and Conditions. If a product is damaged beyond repair during the rental period or is never returned, we have the right to charge the customer at maximum the recommended retail price of the product – however, damage and compensation situations will always be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
The Ateljé's monthly membership is a contract valid for a period of 3 months, after which the membership continues indefinitely with a notice period of one (1) month. Fixed-term membership cannot be terminated in the middle of the contract period. The binding contract period of The Ateljé's monthly membership is always three (3) paid months. The contract period begins on the day the order is placed.
If you have only purchased a monthly membership for one (1) month, the contract will automatically end after one month.
Fixed-term monthly membership cannot be canceled in the middle of the contract period. However, you can only buy a monthly membership for one month at a time!
Sustainability & environment
Carbon dioxide emissions from the textile industry would be reduced by up to 44% if people wore their clothes twice as long. Our rental service allows us to ensure that the clothes in our range are worn and enjoyed as many times as possible. We always clean the garments ourselves: this allows us to ensure that they are washed, maintained and repaired in the best possible way, while respecting the environment.
The constant mailing and returning of clothes is a genuine environmental concern and, as a company, we must bear our share of the responsibility for it. However, we also want to offer the opportunity to rent clothes to those who can’t visit our Helsinki store – that’s why we’ve made the process as environmentally friendly as possible.
In Finland, Posti and Matkahuolto take care of delivering your order from The Ateljé to you.
All the Posti transport services we use in Finland are 100% carbon neutral Posti Green services. This means that Posti offsets the CO2 emissions from their operations by funding climate projects. You can read more about Posti Green transport here.
Almost all Matkahuolto deliveries are carried out by buses along predetermined bus routes.
We also minimise packaging and postal waste by sending our orders in reusable The Ateljé garment bags.
We wash the rented products ourselves after each use – this is the only way we can guarantee that the rental experience is pleasant for the next user too and that the product is odourless and completely clean.
It’s true that in private use the garment might be washed less often. However, we have made our washing process as eco-friendly as possible by taking the following steps:
Most of the products in our range are purchased with the idea that they must be able to withstand frequent wet-washing. We use only natural and non-toxic detergents: we wash our clothes using Marseille laundry soap and add a splash of unscented vinegar as fabric conditioner. We get rid of difficult stains using, for example, gall soap.
Some of the finest occasion garments in our range cannot be washed in water. Instead of chemical cleaning, we use a steam wardrobe whenever possible to remove odours and neutralise germs. We remove stains locally.
Sometimes the clothes have been worn while living life to the fullest and they need to be dry cleaned. In that case, we use the services whose washing methods are as environmentally friendly as possible.
We want to guarantee the longest possible life cycle for the products in our selection – we already take this into account when choosing which clothes to purchase.
We service and repair our products whenever necessary, for example, by using the services of a clothes repairer to mend minor signs of wear and tear. One of our partners is Arkivé Atelier, a company that specialises in clothing care. You can also buy clothing care products from our online shop.
Responsibility work is not done alone. Through our company, we want to inspire the entire industry to change: new operating models are needed in order for our consumer-oriented culture to change. We need each other to make real change possible.
The brands in our selection have been carefully selected so that each of them has a responsibility strategy and that they are as transparent as possible in their operations.
That's why! We do not believe that it is possible to change the current system from within: new operating models based on the circular economy are needed in order to change our consumer-oriented culture.
Our entire existence revolves around ecological responsibility and the circular economy - with the help of our rental service, we want to offer a more responsible way to enjoy getting dressed and reduce emissions from the textile industry with our rental service.
We also pay attention to environmental issues in our operations and we also pay attention to small actions in our everyday life - our suit bags and packaging materials are reusable, we also use as environmentally friendly materials and detergents as possible, we recycle and our transport is climate-compensated.
However, for us, responsibility is much more than just ecological responsibility. From a socio-cultural point of view, we take care that working life practices, human rights and equality are realized in an appropriate way in our company.
We strive to offer a workplace where it is safe to be, grow and develop, and where you can do meaningful work.

We've just hit the ground running! The journey of The Ateljé has been over for more than 2 years. However, responsibility work is not done alone: That's why we turned to the climate experts Spark Sustainability, because we wanted to understand the climate effects of renting more deeply after the first years of our company. Because we want to focus on timeless and seasonal products, we don't change our selection every six months. However, it is important to us that the products of our rental company are in constant use: so we sometimes pass on those clothing items that have received a little less attention - those that deserve all the attention and love in someone's own wardrobe.

However, by renting from the store, you can save on postage, as collecting the rented product from the store is always free.
